Fast server downloads?

Post by errordotocx »

Hello there.

First let me start off by saying this is truely a great plugin for CSS. I love it. But now onto the serious stuff.

My friend has just recently bought and set up a CSS server for this zombie mod. Everything sofar is working very well. Mani mod...the zombie mod itself. But like most servers people want customs maps to play this cool mod with. I myself am not a pro in setting up servers and this whole thing with setting up fast downloads on a server kind of has me stumped. I have searched around some of the steam forums as well as googled it and it just seems that there is really not that much information out there about this, that or i'm blind.

I was just possibly wondering if there is somewhere or someone that I could be directed to that could possibly help me with setting this up. Or maybe someone on these forums knows how to.

Anything would be very useful. ;)

Thanks,

It's very very simple.

What you need:

1) Web host
2) FTP Access to both server and web host

How to do it:

Open your server.cfg and add the following cvar:

sv_urldownload "URL HERE"

By URL here you would put your web hosts' IP or domain (if you bought one) and it would look something like this:

sv_urldownload "http://63.23.432.2/cstrike"

which would mean you have a folder called cstrike in your public_html directory.

Everything in your cstrike directory on the web host MUST match the directories on the server, example

cstrike/maps on server would be http://63.23.432.2/cstrike/maps on the web host.

If you need hosting I believe urldownload.com offers it and if its just for storage and some good bandwidth, godaddy.com offers pretty cheap hosting, $6.99 a month for 50 gigs space, 500 gigs transfer. (But its a crappy crappy host if you're looking to host a website)

Wow...thank you so so very much. This clears up alot.

I'm guessing that I will need to inluding .res files also. If the maps don't come with them?

[EDIT]

Oh, and we already have a website. We just need a place set aside for fast downloads.
